Are any of the band members related to each other?
Many people think that there are two brothers in Delirious?, you will even find that fact reported in media articles sometimes. But the truth is that Stewart Smith and Martin Smith, whilst sharing the same surname, are not actually brothers and are not related by blood. However Stewart, Martin and Tim are all married to Jon's sisters, making all four of them brothers-in-law. Stu G is the only member of Delirious? who is not related to the other members of the band.

When and how did they become a band?
Delirious? started out as the house band for a youth event called 'Cutting Edge' in 1992. In those days the band were just known as the Cutting Edge band. By 1995 the band's lineup was complete and in 1996 they decided to give up their day jobs and go full time as a band. It was then that Delirious? was born. See the Biography for the full story.

Why is the band called Delirious?
When the five band members decided to go full time as a band in 1996 they choose the name 'Delirious?'. Jon Thatcher explained the choice of their name in an interview where he said: "We opened the dictionary and read the meaning of 'delirious' as 'wildly ecstatic, or enthused. Leaving everything we were doing was quite a gamble at the time, as well. But we decided that we wanted to invest our lives in the band. And that's what we've done."

Jon went on to explain the question mark at the end of the name: "The question mark kind of haunts us. We thought it would be quite amusing at the time and add a bit of intrigue. Now it's stuck and become part of the copyright."

How do they decided where to play/Why don't they play in my city?
Delirious? either do their own tours (usually in the UK, US and sometimes in Europe) or they perform at various organised events around the world. When Delirious? do their own tours they promote themselves and receive all the tour profits themselves. However they also have to pay all the tour costs too, such as venue hire, equipment, transport, crew, food etc. So whilst they keep the profits, the income is not guaranteed as it is dependant on ticket sales. Therefore, on a tour they will plan to go to places they haven't played at recently, or places which in the past have sold well, in order to be sure to cover the costs of putting on the tour.

When Delirious? perform at other shows and events, the show's promoter will pay a fee for them to perform and will foot the bill for the venue hire, any equipment, local crew, hotels and transport. In return, the promoter receives any profit from the show. So in these cases, Delirious? perform where ever the show they have been invited to perform at happens to be.

When will they release a new album/single?
In the past, Delirious? have typically released a new studio album every two years. The band usually spend most of a year recording an album, followed by a year touring the album. In between studio albums, the band have released various live albums and compilation albums. Having already released three live albums, it is unlikely that they will release another one in the near future.

Singles are generally released to help promote an album. In the past, the band have released two or three singles from their albums. However, singles are very expensive to release for a band, and tend to have very little return. In recent years Delirious? have leaned towards releasing singles as free MP3's, instead of releasing CD singles in record stores.

Keep checking the News section of this site for updates on future releases.

Do their songs ever get played on the Radio?
In the UK there are very few Christian radio stations, so Delirious? don't get very much radio play. When they have released mainstream singles in the past, their songs have received limited air-play on the radio.

In the USA, where there are a large number of Christian radio stations, Delirious? songs are often played on the radio. Recently the band also had success on German radio.

Many people have accused Radio 1, the biggest radio station in the UK, of refusing to play Delirious? songs because they are a Christian band. This is un-true. Radio 1 have played Delirious? singles in the past, notably 'Promise' and 'Deeper' which were playlisted when they were released as singles. Radio 1 have also proved that they are not against Christian artists by playing songs by many other Christian groups.

Whilst it's perfectly acceptable to request that a radio station plays a certain song, it is not advisable to bombard them with persistent requests or to accuse them of prejudice, as this usually has a negative affect.
