Background
'Deeper' was the very first Delirious? video ever made. Early in 1997 the band had released their first single 'White Ribbon Day' and having no idea how well it would do they decided not to record a video for it. 'White Ribbon Day' narrowly missed out on the Top 40 (peaking at number 41) but gave Delirious? all the encouragement they needed to make a second attempt at singles chart. 'Deeper' was released on 5th May 1997 and this time the band did record a video which was filmed on the roof of a five story office block in central London. Taking the music industry 'experts' completely by surprise, 'Deeper' sailed straight into number 20 in its first week in the charts, and even managed to hang on for a second week at number 39. 'Deeper' was also rereleased as an EP in November 1997, but only reached number 36.

Video Commentary
Video still: The band playing on a roof top Video still: Martin singing close-up Video still: Stu's guitar solo Video still: Jon sitting with his bass Video still: Tim and Martin spinning around Video still: Martin on the roof with his guitar The opening few lines of 'Deeper' show us that the band have set up camp on the roof of a tall building in a city. Jon is perched on top of his amp with a blue bass guitar. Stu is wearing a bright red England football shirt and has a black guitar. Martin wearing a pink shirt also has an electric guitar with him. A long haired Stew sits happily at his drums and Tim can be seen with an old fashioned organ. Through out the video we see the whole band in at least two different outfits each.

While Martin sings and plays his guitar in front of the camera, the remaining members of Delirious? can be seen wondering around in the background with a few other guest onlookers. The camera also revolves in a circle around Stu while he plays his guitar. While the scene never stops moving, the most interesting part of the video seems to be spotting what is going on in the background.

With the band gathered together around their instruments, and a strange blue filter covering the lens, Martin gets down on his hands and knees in front of the camera, and then returns to an upright position in a speeded up sequence.

In the distant background other taller buildings can be seen, over looking the flat roof where Delirious? are performing. An excellent and entertaining first video for Delirious? which showcases the song perfectly.
