Background
'Promise' was released as a single on 14th July 1997 in the UK. Fresh from the success of their first Top 40 hit 'Deeper', Delirious? decided to quickly release another single from their first studio album 'King of Fools'. The video was mainly filmed in a large hall in Littlehampton where a simple set consisting of a back cloth, carpet and hundreds of light bulbs was constructed. Additional footage shows Littlehampton beach (where the Cutting Edge beach parties used to take place) and also features Anita Roderick (Littlehampton resident and founder of the well-known beauty product retailer 'The Body Shop') who had agreed to be filmed for the video.

Video Commentary
Video still: The band surrounded by light bulbs Video still: Stu's guitar solo Video still: Tim's Rhodes keyboard Video still: Martin singing with a light bulb Video still: Stu and the band performing Video still: Stew behind the drum kit The video starts with a close up shot of a light bulb. The heavy guitar introduction then kicks in to reveal Delirious? surrounded by light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Stu bounces around in a red t-shirt with his guitar. Martin with blonde spiky hair wears a plain white shirt and occasionally holds a guitar. His microphone has been replace by another light bulb. Jon wears shorts and a white t-shirt and has a blue bass guitar. Tim wears a light blue shirt and plays a Rhodes keyboard. Stew, with his long hair, wears a blue sports jacket and sits behind a drum kit.

The scene starts to switch between Delirious? and shots of other people, outside on a sea front. The light bulbs around the band flash on and off and Martin starts to sing. One light bulb explodes, and suddenly the people we previously saw outside start to fall over in slow motion. There is a policeman, a dustman, a cleaning lady, two children on a beach, all of whom are seen falling over.

Stu's guitar solo rockets into life with him dancing around maniacally with his guitar. More light bulbs explode, and as Martin sings "I'm falling into you" more people are seen falling over. We see members of the band stood in front of bright blue and yellow beach huts, slowly falling onto their knees. Back in the studio Delirious? are also seen diving around and falling over, again in slow motion.

When the song ends, a light bulb shines brightly and the video fades out.
